The Technology Collaboration Center held a workshop on Water Quality & Purification, hosted by Ecolab in Sugar Land, on Wednesday, October 23, in parthership with TMA BlueTech and the Federal Laboratory Consortium, with presentations on the latest technology developments or unmet challenges, and interactive sessions on the formation of new technology collaboration partnerships related to water.

TCC workshops are designed to explore potential relationships with others attending the workshop that may have common interests in the workshop topic area.

In addition to two presentation panel sessions, this workshop featured interactive discussion sessions exploring formation of new partnerships in 6 topic areas:

  • Water purification
  • Water recycle, reuse & reclamation
  • Water quality monitoring
  • Water challenges in the energy sector
  • Desalination
  • General industrial water challenges

  • Desalination:
    • Desalination of drinking & produced water
      • Objectives:  Lower cost, society benefits, reduce disposal
  • General industrial water challenges:
    • Collaboration of entrepreneurs & hi-tech
    • Confirm effectiveness of Advanced Oxidation Systems (AOS)
      • Objectives:  Confirm effectiveness of  advanced oxidation systems to specific contaminants in specific water
    • Iodine for biocide & H2S removal offshore oil & gas cooling towers
    • Odor & VOC control in space
      • Objectives:  Can this become a recycle system?
    • Post spin pilot cooling tower
      • Objectives:  Prevent biofilm, scale & corrosion; promote heat transfer
  • Recycle, reuse & reclamation:
    • Bio-electro oxidation technology for urine treatment
    • Green pre-treat water monitoring system
    • Hi-efficiency filtration
    • Remove oil sheen from frac pits
    • Ultra high purity reverse osmosis (UHPRO): options & limitations
      • Objectives:  Exchange insights in UHPRO issues & potential solutions

    • Drilling completions vis-à-vis water management discover
    • H2S & disinfection using iodine in the oilfield

    • Recycle water & reduce cost
    • Scouting exercise for new tech
  • Water quality monitoring:
    • Bacteria real-time detection in lab & field
    • Connected smart sensors for novel measurement applications
    • More robust, flow through, turbidity monitoring
    • Mussels for water quality monitoring
    • Turbidity monitoring online
      • Objectives: Determine of non-contact turbidity monitoring method will be robust enough to measure various sources of PW
    • Water quality data cloudification for analytics & predictive maintenance
      • Objectives: Learn if Water Quality sensor/measurement systems data can be easily put in the data ecosystem  (AWS Cloud) to be readily visualized on web/mobile devices, enabling PM and advanced analytics
    • Water sensors to enable water quality data to cloud
  • Water purification:
    • Advanced oxidation system for water soluable organics & oxidation alternatives
    • JV or channel partner for PFAS capture remediation & destruction
